Overview
Fleet Rooftop Bar sits on level 22 of Vibe Hotel Melbourne, on the corner of Queen and Flinders Street, where the hotel's former penthouse suites have been turned into one of the CBD's most stylish and elevated places for a bites and drinks with a view. The rooftop pays homage to Melbourne's maritime heritage, and feels a lot like a private '80s penthouse, with warm tones, bespoke furniture, and an elegant long central bar. The sleek inside leads out to a bright wrap-around terrace, where a retractable roof and glass panelling means Melbourne's famously fickle weather never has to ruin your plans.
Views
At 68 metres above street level, Fleet is the tallest rooftop bar on Flinders Street, and the views live up to it. From the terrace you look out over Flinders Street Station, the Yarra River and Southbank, with the city skyline wrapping around you.
Food & Drinks
True to its name, Fleet sets sail with a nautical-themed and seasonal drinks list, curated by drinks consultant Grant Collins. Rum is the star, with a collection of more than 70 bottles from around the world, including some rare and vintage drops, backed up by around 50 gins. Expect timeless classics like the Hurricane and the Negroni alongside locally inspired signature creations, spritzes, Victorian wines, craft beers and mocktails. The bites are just as polished, with share plates taking you on a voyage through Melbourne's diverse tastes and flavours. From 'Pacific Oysters' and 'Spanner Crab Toast' to 'Hibachi Chicken Skewers', 'Snapper with brown butter' and a '250g O'Connor Sirloin'.
What we think about Fleet Rooftop Bar
Fleet feels a bit like being invited up to a very glamorous friend's penthouse, just with a far better bar. The combination of river views, a seriously impressive rum shelf and thoughtfully curated sips makes it a top pick for date nights, special occasions and after-work drinks that turn into something more. And thanks to the retractable roof, it is just as good a hideaway on a grey winter's evening as on a balmy summer night.
