In the UK casino world, dedicated rooftop gaming floors are still rare, but some venues combine elevated social spaces with casino entertainment, and plenty of cities where rooftops and nightlife mingle naturally with gaming culture.
The best example of rooftop culture and casino culture coming together in the UK is the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square. The multi-level rooftop space above the casino itself, called The Gods Rooftop, offers an upscale space of food and drink with views of the city, just steps away from the casino games.
Just down the square from the Hippodrome, the Empire Casino offers an outdoor space through their Dovetail bar, which offers drinks and food on their balcony overlooking Leicester Square.
A third example of coming together in the UK is the Wynn Mayfair, which offers an upscale gaming club with an open-air space as well as its salons.
London has always had the best of everything, and the city has certainly been at the forefront of rooftop culture and gaming.
In Manchester, the city offers two of the best casinos in the UK: Manchester235 and Grosvenor Casino Salford. While they don't have rooftop space per se, they do offer everything under the same roof. And the rooftop culture of Manchester is thriving.
In the West Midlands, for example, Resorts World Birmingham is one of the largest casinos outside of London, although while the bars and food areas are inside, it's located near some of the top rooftop bars, such as the Sky Bar & Restaurant at Resorts World, as well as the terraces of the nearby Park Regis Birmingham, ideal for a night out with a twist before or after a night of gaming.
And even in seaside towns such as Westcliff-on-Sea, Genting Casino Westcliff, for example, has views over the estuary, providing a social setting that combines views with gaming.
In Cardiff, entertainment centers such as the Red Dragon Centre provide not only gaming but also other activities, with views over the waterfront and bayside, as well as the city skyline, providing an ideal setting.
There may not be many rooftop gaming venues, but that's not to say that this trend won't continue, especially with the ability to take your gaming with you anywhere you go, thanks to modern technology.
With many live dealer and traditional casino games now being available on mobiles and other devices, it's now possible to enjoy your favorite casino games, such as online roulette, anywhere with a signal, even on a rooftop bar, balcony, or even in a social setting, such as overlooking a city skyline.
For example, many social groups are now enjoying an evening of roulette as part of their night out, starting with a social gathering, enjoying a rooftop bar with views of the skyline, followed by some amusement with an online roulette wheel as the night progresses.
It's no longer about the interior casino gaming floors, the smoke-filled rooms. It's about casino culture merging with rooftop culture and nightlife in interesting ways.
You can have your cocktail session at the rooftop as the sun sets over the city, then head over to the casino floor for some table games, and end the night with some online games in front of the same skyline.
