World-class casinos across the globe embody luxury, prestige, and sophisticated glamor. What pairs well with this concept? A rooftop bar. There’s something classy about being high above the city, looking down at the hustle and bustle as you sip a cocktail and ponder the evening ahead.
The perfect combination, then, is a rooftop bar atop a casino, or at least adjacent to one. Here’s a quick trip around the world, and one must-visit rooftop bar and casino in each destination.
Luxury casinos, fine dining, and rooftop bars draw visitors to North and Southeast Asian cities year-round. The shining stars of the region are Singapore and Macau.
Whenever most people hear the name Singapore, the first image that comes to mind is the iconic Marina Bay Sands resort complex. It looks like three towers with a giant boat draped across the top. That top level, known as Skypark, features a 650-foot-high observation deck that allows visitors to see views across Singapore and, on a clear day, all the way into Malaysia. While it's well-known for its 490-foot-long infinity pool (now exclusively available to hotel guests only), those looking for a rooftop bar experience should head to LAVO, which has Italian food with an amazing bar, and everyone is welcome. A business-casual dress code applies after sunset.
After drinks, head back down to the ground floor where the casino sits in its own building, in front of the hotel towers. The casino covers 161,000 square feet, over two levels. Interestingly, it doesn't actually have a branded name; it's just referred to as "the casino at Marina Bay Sands."
Macau is a former Portuguese colony that now sits under Chinese sovereignty but has a high degree of autonomy in many areas, including gambling. Casino Estoril was the first to open in 1963, and today there are more than 50.
There are numerous rooftop bars across the city, most of them connected to brand-name hotels like the Ritz-Carlton and the St Regis.
One that stands out as part of a casino complex is the 38 Lounge at the Altira Macau, Taipa. Located on the 38th floor, it's an elegant rooftop lounge and bar, with epic views of the Macau Peninsula across the Pearl River Estuary, part of the South China Sea. The venue is for adults only, which is 18+ in Macau.
Downstairs, the casino is spread across the first six floors of the building, covers 183,000 square feet, and has over 200 gaming tables (primarily baccarat and blackjack) and more than 500 slot machines. The public-facing casino is on the first floor, with the other floors reserved for high-rollers, VIPs, and whales.
There are rooftop bars galore in Las Vegas, from the bottom of the strip all the way through downtown and up to the Fremont experience. Surprisingly, not many of the actual casinos along the Strip have one; they're primarily at the top of some brand-name (non-casino) hotels or away from the downtown area.
The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino complex on the Las Vegas Strip is home to one of the most-visited rooftop bars in the city: Skyfall on the 64th floor of the Delano hotel. Guests experience 180° views of the city and can sip on artisan cocktails while sharing bar-favorite appetizers. On Fridays and Saturdays from 9 pm until midnight, DJs provide an easy-going soundtrack.
Once they've had their fill of cocktails and views, casino players can grab the elevator to the ground floor and within 3 minutes be at the 135,000 square foot casino area. Mandalay Bay Casino offers every possible game players can imagine, and even some they haven't experienced yet.
Europe's casinos exude luxury, style, and the ultimate in design, location, and service. Two highlights are Monte Carlo and London.
Monte Carlo, on the French Riviera, is the playground for the rich and famous, where glamour and luxury go hand in hand. The famous Monte Carlo Casino is located in Casino Place, right on the Mediterranean.
There are no rooftop bars as such in the Casino Place complex. However, one of the city's best is a five-minute walk northwest to the Fairmont Monte Carlo, where the Amù Monte Carlo sits on the roof of the seventh floor. Amù Monte Carlo is a rooftop pool and bar, and as such exclusively opens from March to November, avoiding the colder months—no outdoor pool is fun during a Mediterranean winter.
The Fairmont Monte Carlo itself has an in-house casino called Sun Casino. While the Monte Carlo Casino complex is next door, Sun Casino offers a luxury boutique alternative with 30 tables, 300 slot machines, and an elegant dress code. It's open from 2 pm until 4 am daily. A fun fact about the Sun Casino is that the Monte Carlo Formula 1 track goes right underneath the venue through a purpose-built tunnel.
March - November Rooftop Pool & Bar Mediterranean ViewsThere are 22 casinos in London, and most have that old-school charm with classic designs, situated in centuries-old buildings. The one stand-out with a rooftop bar is the Hippodrome in Leicester Square. Its rooftop offering, known as the Gods Rooftop Bar, covers levels five to seven. The top level is for reservations only, and the two below accept walk-ins. It's open from 4 pm until 2 am weekdays and from 2 pm on weekends. Specialty cocktails are the order of the day, and the extensive bar snacks menu will appeal to everyone. Look down and watch the West End come alive before the theater shows begin.
The three on-site casinos take up floors one to four below the bars and contain the largest variety of slot machines and table games in the city.
3 Levels Leicester Square West End ViewsOverseen by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the UAE government in 2023 released new gaming regulations. Locals and visitors who are already familiar with the region's safe online casino play can look forward to those same regulations being applied to the land-based format.
While the regulations are strict, land-based casino licenses are already being offered. International casino heavyweight Wynn Group was the first to be approved and already has a project underway.
Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates is the site for the region's first land-based casino, and it's a massive project. Due to open in early 2027, its main focus will be the 70-floor tower with 1,530 rooms, suites, and townhouses. The complex will have 24 restaurants, numerous bars and lounges, a beach club, and a nightclub. On the roof will be a section known as the Enclave, and while still under development, it promises to include an exclusive boutique restaurant and bar.
Keeping with the "in the sky" theme, the Sky Gaming Casino is set to be located on the 22nd floor. Privileged guests can combine an enchanted evening at the Enclave with exciting gambling on the casino floor.
It's expected that the Wynn project will be the first of many casino complexes that will dot the entire UAE.
Opening Early 2027 Ras Al Khaimah Sky Gaming CasinoNo matter what gambling city in the world you visit, you'll be able to combine drinks on a rooftop with epic views of the city and an evening of poker or slots.
In most places, they're in the same building or part of the same complex, meaning you can walk from one to the other in under five minutes.
Many rooftop bars are designed for sunset viewing, especially waterfront ones, so why not begin your evening with cocktails as the sun goes down? If the bar serves food, it's an ideal opportunity to have dinner as well. Then head on down to the casino area and spend the evening gambling.
In keeping with the luxury theme, some of these elegant rooftop bars and adjacent casinos have strict dress policies, so be sure to check their websites before heading out.
