Marcella Royal Hotel is a classic hotel in Rome that’s been family run since many years ago. Today it’s owned by Marcella who’s over 90 years old. She’s at the hotel almost every day and looks after the roof garden and facilities. Typical Italian and we love it!
She’s also the reason why the hotel has its name. Here’s our review of the hotel and beautiful roof garden.
At the roof garden you can have your breakfast, lunch and apertivo. The terrace is equally beautiful during the morning as during nightfall. Sweeping views over the rooftops of Rome and surrounding landscape.
The breakfast up here is classic breakfast buffet with some Italian influences like cornetto and other pastries. Nothing special, but still a good breakfast. One favorite thing though was the pancake machine where you could make your own pancakes. You don't see that in many hotels.
The best thing is that you can have your breakfast both outside on the terrace and on the rainier and colder days in the glassed section inside. The perfect way to start your day.
The roof terrace is garnished with many plants and flowers which creates a beautiful setting and environment. One of few roof gardens in Rome. There’s also a solarium section on the terrace where you can work on your tan during the sunny days. Unfortunately, it was too hot for that during our visit.
When the sun sets this is an ideal place for an aperitif (apertivo). The sunset is beautiful, and along with some refreshing cocktails you don’t need much more for a great evening. Perfect for both families, date or a night out with your friends.
It a luxury few can offer to be able to sit in a roof garden in the middle of a buzzing city while gazing out over the skyline and sunset.
The rooms are spacious with both a classic and modern interior. If your lucky, you’ll get a room with a city view, which is something extra to wake up to. The bathrooms felt very fresh and new. We would say that they were over the typical standard for hotels in Rome.
One of the best things about this hotel though, was the superb service we received. All the way from the reception to the roof garden. Always with a smile and willingness to help out.
The staff here spoke great English (not always common in southern Europe), which was very helpful.
We can recommend Marcella Royal Hotel to everyone that will visit Rome. The rooms, roof garden and service are great. The only downside is the location which is not a central as you would prefer. But still within walking distance and very close to the train station (Termini).
And if you stay at another hotel, it’s well worth visiting the roof garden for some drinks. It’s beautiful from up there!
