Located in the heart of Tamboerskloof, Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel has pretty much a perfect location. Set in a calm neighborhood, it is within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and pulse on Kloof Street and Long Street.
By car you can reach Lion’s Head and Table Mountain in about 5 minutes, and both the V&A Waterfront as well as the beaches in Camps Bay and Clifton in the other direction are a 10 minutes drive away.
We enjoyed a two night stay at the hotel, and a lovely evening up on the top floor rooftop bar. Here is our full review.
The Cloud 9 rooftop bar is a multi-level joy of relaxed atmosphere and fantastic views. Even though you are only 4 floors up, the 360’s over Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and pretty much all of Cape Town, are both panoramic and beautiful.
Since the night up at the rooftop was our first in Cape Town, it was a perfect chance to get to know the city from above. And luckily for us, it was a clear evening, presenting a fantastic sunset. A table with front-row views of the sun setting between Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, it does not get much better.
The Cloud 9 Rooftop is more small and intimate than grand and cool. This helps create a chill-out and relaxing vibe, perfect for afternoons and nights out with some friends.
The rooftop menu is about as relaxing as the atmosphere, with snacks and sourdough pizzas (perfect to share), a wide range of signature cocktails and (of course), a large selection of wines.
We mixed some refreshing, local whites with tasty reds, and also tried most items on the food menu. 'Jalapeno Poppers', 'Chicken Strips', 'Caprese Skewers', along with the 'Signal Hill' and 'Devils Peak' pizzas.
The snacks and pizzas were good. Not amazing, but tasty and filling. And Cloud 9 is not the place you go to for the dinner of your life, but it is the place to go to for relaxing hours with grand views. The feeling of “this is nice, let’s stick around for another drink”. Where the “another” will most likely be followed by some more.
The lower level of the rooftop also holds a crystal clear rooftop pool. Open to both guests at the hotel and rooftop bar visitors, the pool is not big enough to take a swim, but it do come with some amazing views.
We found it most enjoyable in the early mornings, while the rooftop is still calm. Some morning sun and a refreshing dip with views is the perfect start to any day.
Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel looks and feels very much like an old and beautiful residential house, and you are welcome. The overall interior is very stylish, modern and fresh, with lots of art on the walls and attention to details.
The rooms are charming and feel spacious, and while each one of them are unique, they all come with the facilities needed, like AC, coffee machine, free WiFi, bath products and HD TV. Our second floor rooms also had a lovely balcony with views over Table Mountain and Lion’s Head.
Apart from the rooftop pool, there is another, more private, plunge pool and terrace where we spent a sunny afternoon. We also made use of the small gym with fantastic views, but not of the available spa.
On the ground floor of the hotel you find Charlie Bistro & Bar. With seating inside and on the veranda, it’s open for lunch and dinner, but this is also where the great hotel breakfast is served. It is part buffet-style (with lots of options), but you also get to choose an item from the á la carte menu. Like the Smashed Avo (Zucchini fritter, avocado, poached eggs).
We arrived at Cloud 9 with car, and there is a fenced and private parking, which was great.
The service and staff at the hotel was both friendly and very helpful. For instance, breakfast packages for an early morning trip to Lion’s Head was not a problem at all.
We highly recommend both the Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel and the Cloud 9 Rooftop Bar. The hotel in itself offers great and comfortable accommodation, with lots of extra perks. It also has a fantastic location, close to restaurants and shops, and just a short drive to pretty much all destinations worth a visit in Cape Town.
The rooftop bar is a fantastic venue to “drop by” and enjoy drinks and bites in a chill-out atmosphere, all served with some truly amazing views over Cape Town.
