The day began with an early rise followed by some running in Central Park and bagel breakfast. The first rooftop bar on the day's schedule opened at 2 PM, so we had some time for sports bar hangout and lunch. 10:30 AM local time the soccer game Rayo Vallecano - Real Madrid began at the sports bar Legends.
It was me, Ida and some British guys who had gathered to watch football and the result did not disappoint (not me at least). 3-2 to Real Madrid and the mood couldn’t be better.
It was with a feeling of joy we started walking towards Meatpacking district where we had booked lunch at 1 PM. Immediately after the lunch at Dos Caminos, we went up to Gansevoort Meatpackings rooftop bar. Stunning rooftop which I have already written about here. We jump to the next instead.
Shortly after 4 PM we went to the roof terrace at The Standard. An incredibly popular rooftop bar which we have unfortunately not been able to contact before our visit.
A Saturday afternoon with 20-25 degrees and sunshine. We suspected it would be crowded with people on the terrace and we were so right. Not a seat in sight and looong queue for the bar. We stayed only a short while and took some pictures.
The atmosphere was very festive and the clientele quite young. The best thing here was the view. Quite magical of Downtown and the Hudson River.
After The Standard we went further south in the direction of Wallstreet and the rooftop bar at the Jimmy at the James Hotel. A really nice walk along the waterfront, where we passed by both basketball and football fields with many Yankees who wanted to work out this Sunday. We felt a little bit bad when we walked past all the hearty people where we were heading for beer and food instead of training.
Jimmy at the James is an awesome rooftop with a swimming pool and views in all directions. The evening sun was very nice and we got a perfect spot in the corner of the rooftop bar right in the sun with views of the Freedom Tower in the south, New Jersey in the west and the Empire State Building in the northeast. One of the most beautiful views you can get in Manhattan.
We tried to order a beer each, but with a little miscommunication we got 3 each instead. So we had to drink fast to not risk the beer to get warm.
A fantastic rooftop day with both good weather, drinks and views. More about day 4 in the next blog post.
